MyAdvisor @ RBC
Previous Role: Lead UXR
Overview:
MyAdvisor is a multi-audience platform used internally by a technical audience of 2k+ certified financial advisors and over 2.1M RBC clients. At its core, the platform uses Monte Carlo simulations to model financial planning projections through a client’s lifetime.
Responsibilities:
I am responsible for creating and executing on a roadmap of strategic (generative) and tactical (evaluative) research for MyAdvisor.
I partner with a cross-functional team of product designers, content strategists, product managers, and engineers to ensure research insights about user needs are prioritized and integrated into platform strategy and design.
Project highlights:
Mixed methods research approach to understanding the covid-19 response to remote video client appointments, identifying barriers, habits, and user preferences.
Retirement transition project, using qualitative approaches to discover how MyAdvisor can best expand to support the needs of clients who are transitioning into retirement, or are already retired. These clients financial planning needs significantly differ from those who are savings towards retirement.
MyAdvisor site redesign, using evaluative approaches and usability testing to uncover recommendations and improvements to the site's architecture and content strategy, driven and informed by research insights.
Digital Transformation @ PwC
Past Role: UX Research & Design - 2018 to 2019
Responsibilities:
UX research and design lead on an award nominated e-learning platform and mobile app for enterprise clients to measure and improve employee digital literacy.
Digital transformation experience consultant for a client transitioning from a paper-based sales process to an e-commerce solution.
Project Highlights:
Digital Fitness App: Improved research execution by establishing an internal recruitment funnel for time-sensitive UXR needs, complementing formal recruitment for larger studies.
NOVA Chemicals: Conducted over 20 stakeholder interviews and facilitated workshops to establish user personas for our client and their customers. Defined current and future state journey maps for a complex manufacturing e-commerce process.
FocalPoint @ Cognitive Engineering Lab
Role: Human Factors Research - 2016 to 2018
Overview:
In this role I conducted research investigating how operator trust is affected by different interface displays of algorithm explainability when a network security operator relies on a machine learning recommendation system as a decision support tool.
Project Highlights:
Alongside my colleague, Dr. Sean Kortschort, I designed a reusable test-bed supporting cybersecurity UI research for a US military client. The test-bed, called ‘FocalPoint’, was designed to simulate network monitoring tasks and elicit a proxy for network operator cognition.
I defined requirements and informed design concepts for the platform using insights derived from ethnographic interviews I conducted with local network security operators.
